Skype Beta for Windows Phone

Microsoft released this morning a beta version of Skype for Windows Phone. The application is available for download in Marketplace.

The Skype Beta Version 0.2.0.1 allows users to send instant messages to their Skype contacts and make video (if the phone has a front facing camera) or non-video calls between the users. The app is also capable to call mobile and landline phones, as you would expect in a Skype client. If your phone does not have a front facing camera, the application launches an available (back) camera when in a video mode.

I used the Skype Beta for a few minutes and the app worked without any glitches. Hopefully, with the upcoming Apollo version of Windows Phone we can expect a full integration of Skype into the operating system.

The stable version of Skype app for Windows Phone is expected to be released in April.
